My Purpose
Since beginning my work as a theatre reviewer in 2023, I’ve come to recognize the profound impact that live performance has on my life. Theatre is not only my passion—it’s a powerful force that I believe should be accessible and celebrated by all. My aim as a reviewer is to ignite that same love for the arts in others.
I am committed to championing productions of all scales, from grand stages to intimate venues, and supporting both emerging and established voices. My reviews are written with the intention of uplifting the theatre community—not perpetuating the competitive or cutthroat image often associated with the industry. At its core, my work is about connection, appreciation, and advocacy for the transformative magic of theatre.
My Criteria
Over my years of reviewing, I have realised that although traditional star ratings are useful for quick insights into what a show is 'worth,' it is entirely subjective and the criteria changes from show-to-show.
Instead of relying solely on star ratings, I will also attribute a percentage score for multiple categories. This includes: Production Value and Value for Money.
The percentages will be rough equivalents to the star ratings, just more precise. For example:
⭐ (0-20%): Radical changes need to be made.
⭐⭐(21-40%): Some good material, with potential, but needs major reworks.
⭐⭐⭐(41-60%): Good material, with potential, but needs some work.
⭐⭐⭐⭐(61-80%): Great material with some minor adjustments needed.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(81-100%): Amazing material.
