Back by popular demand is "Britain’s biggest theatre circus spectacular", this time making a stop at the Garrick Theatre in London's West End. Unfortunately, this show did not live up to this reviewer's expectations.

Circus acts have been a part of this reviewer's life for as long as she can remember, and so, her childhood memories were waiting to be reignited. Instead, presented on one of London's iconic stages, was what can only be described as an incredibly overstimulating moment. The show is recommended for ages 5 and up, though in that auditorium were a majority of children 5 or even younger. It seemed as though the artistic direction of this production did not take this into account.

The costumes were lit up with harsh and fast changing LED lights, on a dark stage where you either could barely see the act itself or be treated to instant visual overstimulation. Fewer, slower colour changes would have made a big difference. Every act was also complemented by loud and relentless electronic music with harsh beats. By the end, this reviewer was seriously regretting not having brought sunglasses and ear defenders.

Putting these details aside, the circus acts themselves were impressive to say the least. Daring motorcyclists, aerialists and a series of acrobats, they really pulled out all the stops to make this a memorable performance. There are also a few classic pantomime-like aspects to the show, with a plot thread featuring a duo with one lead and a funny side-kick. It was quite frustrating as this reviewer wanted to join in the marvel of it all and appreciate the skill on stage, but the aspects previously mentioned really hindered her ability to appreciate it.

All that together could have made for a nice afternoon family outing, but all of those sensory aspects may not suit younger children and will be hard going for anyone sensitive to light or sound.
