Now this reviewer does not oft get the chance to watch dance productions - the main reason behind that being fear. Fear of not understanding, or being able to put words to emotions. Suffice it to say, this new production by Mona Khashoggi has put all those worries to rest.

Sinbad (Mark Samaras) loses his fortune gambling and sets off on a thrilling voyage. Along the way, he battles sea monsters and escapes danger but with the fearless Assia (danced by Phoebe Higgins) by his side, nothing can come stop him from going home to Bagdad.

Performed by a talented ensemble, this show brought to life the Arab culture through a fusion of modern and folkloric dance as well as a vast collection of traditionally inspired costumes. Using video projections (designed by Matt Powell) as a backdrop to Sinbad's adventures, the show's artistic design is impressive, especially considering the limited stage space.

Despite a short 45 minute run-time, Sinbad the Sailor captured the hearts of many a young viewer in the audience - as I'm sure it will continue to do as it grows with time.
