The iconic cult-classic Rocky Horror Show is back for its 50th Anniversary tour, delighting audiences once again with its sexy rock-and-roll score and wonderfully kooky storyline.

The plot kicks off on a fateful night when Brad Majors and his fiancée, Janet Weiss — an innocent, straight-laced couple — find themselves caught up in the bizarre experiments of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter (Jason Donovan), a flamboyant alien scientist with a taste for the theatrical. What follows is a wild, genre-bending adventure that forces Brad and Janet to question not only their relationship, but everything they thought they knew about themselves.

The show encourages audience participation, which creates an electric, immersive atmosphere — though it may overwhelm newcomers trying to follow the plot. The crowd’s constant commentary and shout-backs, while entertaining, can at times detract from the material itself. More seasoned theatre-goers might find the second act in particular to be somewhat sluggish and confusing, despite Richard O’Brien’s cult status as a writer.

Visually, the production is a feast. Hugh Durrant’s set design starts off with bright, geometric shapes reminiscent of a classic pantomime, before transforming into a darker, more decadent aesthetic as the characters enter Frank’s castle. Nick Richings’ lighting design — especially the use of deep reds and strobe effects — adds to the surreal, otherworldly feel.

Audience interaction is central to Rocky Horror’s enduring charm. Few shows allow spectators to shout, dance, and engage so freely with what's happening on stage. Remarkably, the audience manages to strike a perfect balance between chaos and discipline, making for a truly unique and fun theatrical experience.

Special mention must go to Stacey Monahan, who stepped into the role of Janet Weiss for the evening. As the show's swing and dance captain, she delivered a standout performance with remarkable poise and energy — especially impressive given the sweltering heat of the day.

Is Rocky Horror the most polished or profound musical out there? Probably not. But is it a hell of a good time? Absolutely.
